2023-2024申请季招生政策、补充文书大幅调整|最新要求汇总
随着8月Common App正式开放,新一轮申请季的号角就此吹响。
而6月美国最高法院宣判废除大学招生的平权法案,也使得这个申请季注定与以往不同。大学纷纷调整了招生政策:
- 很多学校增加涉及申请者“文化背景”与“生活经历”的补充文书;
- 西北大学不再强制要求学生提交Common App或Coalition上的主文书;
- 明尼苏达大学双城分校、卫斯理大学、西方学院、弗吉尼亚理工学院等校撤销校友优先录取;
- 弗吉尼亚理工学院还同时取消了早行动录取(Early Decision);
- 维克森林大学增设针对第一代大学生的早行动录取(Early Action);
- 拉法叶学院宣布只看活动列表的前6项,以使那些更难在活动上投入时间、精力和金钱的低收入群体拥有更多的竞争机会。
大学希望通过这些举措来促进录取公平,增加学生的多元性。
其中,从各个学校更新的补充文书要求来看,多数学校的调整主要是针对平权法案取消所进行的调整,莎拉劳伦斯学院更是直接在补充文书中直接引用了首席大法官John Roberts判决书中的话。学校的这些调整一方面是提问方式更符合判决要求,另一方面也能获得关于学生身份、文化背景的更多信息。
本文对部分大学的文书要求进行了整理汇总,希望能够给奋战申请季的大家一些参考和帮助。
哈佛大学
Harvard University
深陷舆论漩涡的哈佛大学调整了今年的补充文书题目,由5个必选问题(回答不超过200个词)取代了原本的1道必选+2道可选文书题目,每道题目回答不超过200个词,内容涉及生活经历、学术成就、未来期望等等。
1)Harvard has long recognized the importance of enrolling a diverse student body. How will the life experiences that shape who you are today enable you to contribute to Harvard? (200 words)

今年哥伦比亚大学的补充文书呈现出一个有趣的组合,有原样保留的旧题目、重新表述后的旧题目以及新加入的题目,并对字数限制做了调整。
新增加的题目:
In college/university, students are often challenged in ways that they could not predict or anticipate. It is important to us, therefore, to understand an applicant’s ability to navigate through adversity. Please describe a barrier or obstacle you have faced and discuss the personal qualities, skills or insights you have developed as a result. (150 words or fewer)
