进入八月，全美大学新申请季的战幕拉开。全美共有4000多所大学，每个申请人可以选择无限个数的院校，但是如果一所一所的提交申请未免过于繁琐，因此，联合申请系统出现了。大学本科较大的申请系统共有四个，分别是 Common Application, Coalition Application, ApplyTexas, UC application。其中前两个范围较广，涉及不同州，甚至多个国家的大学申请的系统，后两个申请系统则为州内大学的申请系统。这四个系统都可以接受美国本土及海外的申请者，但是在院校数量上差别较大。

本文详细解读这四个申请系统以及新申请季的更新，希望可以为即将用到这些系统的同学们提供帮助。

1. Common Application

涵盖学校数量

      作为美国大学申请系统中规模最大的系统，Common Application 接受1098所大学的申请，其中1043所为美国境内的大学，此外还包括来自于英国，加拿大，欧洲，亚洲，澳大利亚及南美洲的大学。在1043所美国大学中，有1041所大学接受大一新生的申请，有670所大学接受转学申请，基本上涵盖了大部分申请者会涉及到的学校。

申请所含内容

        Common Application今年迎来了它成立的第五十周年，也在今年更改了其网页版面设计。 Common Application申请总体仍为两部分内容， 第一部分为My Common Application 部分，这部分包括Profile (个人信息)，Family (家庭背景)，Education (教育背景)，Testing (标准化考试信息)，Activities (所参与课外活动内容)，Writing (文书写作)，Courses & Grades (课程和分数——这部分视学校要求而定）。第二部分为 My Colleges，即所申请院校的具体问题，要求和补充文书，这部分内容由每个学校根据各自的需要设定问题，每个学校各有不同，因此申请者需要分别打开每个学校仔细查看填写。例如斯坦福大学包括自己的 Questions 部分，集中了斯坦福向申请生提出的所有问题包括个人基本信息，学术信息，联系方式，家庭信息及文书问题等，虽然看起来与 Common App 原有的基本信息略有相同，但其实是斯坦福针对 Common App 部分问题的补充。

Essays 文书 

      不论是哪个阶段的申请，文书的重要性都不言而喻。认真对待文书题目，选择一个适合自己的文书题目是写好申请文书的大前提条件。Common Application 的主文书对字数有明确的要求，字数上限为650词，下限为250词。因此不是文书内容越丰富越好，言简意赅，表达得当很重要。主文书题目有如下七个，从中选一即可：

1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience? 

3. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome? 

4. Reflect on something that someone has done for you that has made you happy or thankful in a surprising way. How has this gratitude affected or motivated you? 

5. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others. 

6. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

7. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you’ve already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

Activities 课外活动

      Common App的课外活动包括艺术，音乐，社团，社区活动，家庭责任，爱好，运动项目，工作或者自愿者及其他申请者认为有意义的活动。申请者需要详细填写参与活动的时间，内容，角色及所获成就，给目标大学提供判断申请者能力的依据。

     Common Application 作为规模最大的申请系统，有逐渐完备的内容及体系，并且会不定期更新申请表格及文书内容，申请者需要提前确认申请系统及文书内容，以免延误申请。Common Application 还有一个较其他申请系统的便利之处在于它推出了手机版本的 application, 申请者可以通过手机下载，登录和使用申请系统，方便快捷，不过目前转学申请还不可以在手机端操作。

2. Coalition Application

Coalition Application又称CAAS（Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success）申请系统。

涵盖学校数量

        Coalition Application 虽然规模不如 Common Application大，但目前也涵盖了超过170所大学，全部为美国大学，包含公立及私立院校，其中宾夕法尼亚州，纽约州和马萨诸塞州所占学校较多，各有19所学校。 

        Coalition于2022年8月1日宣布与 Scoir 达成合作，建立一种新的申请申请系统，并且停用旧系统。这意味着如果你之前在旧的系统建立了账号，那么你需要放弃旧的账号，重新建立Scoir账号进行申请。因此Coalition的申请内容较之前也有了变化。 

        全美大学并没有偏好某一种申请平台，选择Common Application还是Coalition Application并没有优势或劣势。学生应该查阅自己意向大学列表上的每所学校的申请要求，做出明智的决定。 

申请所含内容

       Coalition的申请包括两个步骤，第一步填写申请者的基本信息，包含个人信息，家庭背景，学术背景，标准化考试信息，所学过的课程内容，荣誉及奖励，活动经历等，以及 Coalition 文书。当把第一部分全部检查提交之后，可以解锁第二部分Next Steps，此部分作用为上传申请材料，包括 files (文件)，Recorded Videos（录制的视频）和 Official Documents (官方文件即由学校来提供的成绩单，由推荐人来提供的推荐信内容等)。 

Essays 文书 

      Coalition 的文书字数没有严格要求，但是建议在500-650字之间。Coalition有关于 essays写作的指导建议，为申请者提供写作思路，对写essay完全没有头绪的申请者来说可以在开始写作之前仔细阅读来自于Coalition的建议。 Coalition 文书有六个题目可供选择，申请者可以从六个题目中选择一个最为合适的： 

1. Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.

2. What interests or excites you? How does it shape who you are now or who you might become in the future? 

3. Describe a time when you had a positive impact on others. What were the challenges? What were the rewards?

4. Has there been a time when an idea or belief of yours was questioned? How did you respond? What did you learn? 

5 What success have you achieved or obstacle have you faced? What advice would you give a sibling or friend going through a similar experience?

6. Submit an essay on a topic of your choice.

Activities/Experience，Honors & Distinctions

      这两个部分在Education项目下。 申请者在 Activities/Experiences 部分只能填写至多10个参与过的活动信息，并且建议从两个最重要的非学术经历开始，每个部分包括活动的类别，名称，时间，活动描述，时长，以及所获成就。在Honors 部分可以填写至多5个荣誉经历，填写的内容包括名称，等级及所获时间。申请者可以将自己的所有经历拆开来分别填写，例如申请者拥有的一段获奖经历，既有丰富的参与经历，又是活动中的重要角色，同时取得了成就及奖励，那申请者可以考虑把这一段精力放在Activities 中详细阐述，而不放在 Honors 中填写。 

3. ApplyTexas

涵盖学校数量

      ApplyTexas， 顾名思义，为得克萨斯州州内大学申请系统，该申请系统中包含117个院校，其中含37个公立机构，54个社区，州立及技术学院。除极个别院校，不论申请得克萨斯州内的本科，学院还是研究生，以及美国本土与海外的学生都可以通过该系统申请。 

        得克萨斯州共有 U.S.News 排名Top 100 的大学5所，其中除莱斯大学外，全部可以通过ApplyTexas 系统申请：

1. University of Texas at Austin (德州大学奥斯汀分校)，全美排名30，位于德克萨斯州的首府兼教育中心城市奥斯汀市。

2. Southern Methodist University（南卫理工会大学），全美排名91，位于得克萨斯州的第三大城市，美国第九大城市达拉斯市。

3. Texas A&M University（得克萨斯农工大学），全美排名51，全美第六大公立高校，位于德克萨斯州的卡城（College Station）。

4. Baylor University (贝勒大学)，全美排名91，是得克萨斯州历史最悠久的学府，位于达拉斯 – 沃斯堡大都会区与奥斯汀之间的韦科（Waco）市。

申请所含内容

     ApplyTexas申请系统分为两个部分。 第一部分为Core Question——填写基本信息，教育经历，活动简历等通用问题；第二部分为School Applications——具体学校申请信息，包括专业选择，学校指定问题，以及文书，ApplyTexas 申请系统自己没有文书部分，文书内容由各个学校自己决定。  

Essays 文书 

      ApplyTexas的文书根据每个申请大学自己设定，本文以德州大学奥斯汀分校为例：

Short Answer 1: Major – Why are you interested in the major you indicated as your first-choice major?（Please limit your response to 250-300 words.） 

Short Answer 2: Involvement – Think of all the activities — both in and outside of school — that you have been involved with during high school. Which one are you most proud of and why? (Guidance for students: This can include an extracurricular activity, a club/organization, volunteer activity, work or a family responsibility.) Please limit your response to 250-300 words.  

Essays for This Application： 

Optional Essay A ：Tell us your story. What unique opportunities or challenges have you experienced throughout your high school career that have shaped who you are today? 

Optional Essay B ：Most students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way. Tell us about yourself. 

Optional Essay C ：You’ve got a ticket in your hand – Where will you go? What will you do? What will happen when you get there?

Activities 课外活动

      Activities在Core Question中，可以填写的内容包括Family obligations，Extracurriculars，Volunteer activities，Awards and honors，Employment，每个项目下可以填入最多十个项目， 包括名称，项目等级和内容。申请者在该部分可以填学期中和夏季暑假参与的所有项目，依项目的重要性，参与度，项目等级，与申请专业相关性等排序填入。 

4. UC Application

涵盖学校数量

      UC Application，全称为University of California Application, 即为加州大学的申请系统，该系统只包括加州大学的9个分校：

• UC Berkeley 加州大学伯克利分校
• UC Davis 加州大学戴维斯分校
• UC Irvine 加州大学尔湾分校（又称欧文分校）
• UCLA 加州大学洛杉矶分校
• UC Merced 加州大学默塞德分校
• UC Riverside 加州大学河滨分校
• UC San Diego 加州大学圣地亚哥分校
• UC Santa Barbara 加州大学圣塔芭芭拉分校
• UC Santa Cruz 加州大学圣塔克鲁兹分校

申请所含内容

      加州大学申请系统与上述三个申请系统不同的是它并不分开系统与学校两个主申请部分，申请系统内包含7 个部分，包括：

• About you (申请个人信息)
• Campuses & majors (选择分校及专业）
• Academic history (学术背景)
• Test scores (标准化考试及分数)
• Activities & Awards (活动及奖励)
• Scholarships & programs (奖学金)
• Personal insight (个人洞察力)

申请者在Campuses & major 部分选择目标院校及专业，同时需要根据自己的意愿将院校排序。

Essays 文书 

      加州大学申请系统的文书在Personal insights 部分，包含Personal insight questions 与 Additional comments 两个部分。

      Personal insight questions 包含8个问题，申请者选择4个问题来回答，每个问题回答字数在250词到350词之内：

1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.

2. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.

3. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?

4. Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced. 

5. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?

6. Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.

7. What have you done to make your school or your community a better place?

8. Beyond what has already been shared in your application, what do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for admissions to the University of California?

      Additional comments 为补充文书部分，这部分是可选择项，如果申请者有想补充的文书，可以在 550 字内表达清楚。除上述申请系统的文书外，各个所申请的分校可能会与学生联系要求提供进一步信息。

Activities & Awards 课外活动与奖励

      加州大学申请系统中的活动及获奖经历部分涵盖的范围要更广一些，包括所有的课外活动所获荣誉，其他课程（加州大学要求必修课程以外申请者自修课程），志愿者及社区服务，工作经历，以及为升学规划的准备经历都可以在申请表中体现出来，但是系统针对所填项目个数的上限是20个，因此如果你有超过20个的活动经历，精选出最突出的经历。

     综上所述，全美大学的这四大申请系统为美国本土及海外的数百万申请者提供了便利，让申请者省去很多不必要的步骤和麻烦，但是申请者仍然需要仔细关注每一步骤，且注意一些细节，避免申请失误， 使用这四大申请系统要注重下面三个注意事项：

1.  虽然申请系统是一站式服务，但是很多大学都会在申请系统之外设置第二步申请，因此，申请者需要尽早提交申请并及时查看邮箱查收来自于学校的邮件，确认是否有下一步；

2.  申请系统是一个完善的申请体系，包含申请奖学金，及各个大学的申请相关内容，申请之前需要仔细阅读相关内容，帮助自己顺利提交申请，也防止漏掉如申请截止日期等重要信息；

3. 每个申请系统基本上都包含 Profile 与 Essay 两个部分，很多申请人会着重关注Essay 文书部分，力求文书写的完美，但是 Profile 部分的每一步也应是重点关注对象，申请者需要认真填写，尤其针对 Profile 的数字信息需要准确填写并且认真核对。
